Region X Summary

Results are up! Girls -- Boys

AAT athletes did an outstanding job at the Region Ten meet this past weekend. Lucille and I want to thank you for getting your athlete to the meet.

AAT had 31 athletes compete out of 38 who qualified. Of these, 9 qualified for the National meet in Omaha by placing in the top 3, in 12 events.

Five of the qualifiers won first place (Region X individual champions!) in 6 events:

  • Will Stanopiewicz BB 800 & 1500
  • Allsion Bedonie YW 3000
  • Nick Santistevan BB 1500 RW
  • Hannah Fort MG 3000 RW
  • Rikki Newland MG Mini-Javelin

Nick's 1st place win was also a team record in that he becomes the first Sub-Bantam to ever win an individual Region Ten Championship in the Bantam division for AAT in either track & field or cross-country. Will missed a Region Ten record in the 1500 by 0.52 seconds, so close.

The other national qualifiers are

  • Alec McClain BB 1500 3rd Place
  • Jaden Ortiz MG Mini-Javelin 2nd Place & Discus 2nd Place
  • Rikki Newland along with her Mini-Javelin the Shot Put 3rd Place
  • and Courtney Robinson MB Pentathlon 2nd Place & High Jump 3rd Place

First time national qualifiers are Nick, Alec, and Courtney. AAT had 24 (77%) out of the 31 athletes earn an award medal or ribbon at this meet by placing in the top 6. The Bantam Boys 4x400 and Midget Boys 4x800 relay teams both placed 6th. Bantam Girls 4x400 placed 7th. Club teams and athletes from Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Border (the El Paso, Texas area), and New Mexico make up Region Ten. It was a great weekend for AAT. Congratulations to all our athletes on a job well done. Thank you parents and coaches for all your help at the meet.

When more detailed results become available, they'll be posted here!

About AAT

Albuquerque Athletics Track (AAT) was founded in 1998 and is a track & field and cross-country team for young athletes ages 5 to 18. AAT is a member of the USA Track & Field Association (USATF). In the spring and summer athletes compete in track & field meets and in the fall cross-country meets.

Athletes are taught the basic skills, techniques, and strategy to be proficient in track & field and cross-country. Athletes build confidence, learn self-discipline, and get into great physical condition. Athletes are taught good sportsmanship and to do their best and have fun! AAT's team philosophy and program is designed to put the athletes in a position to be successful in the local meets, the USATF-sponsored State, Regional and National Junior Olympic Championship Meets.

Since 1998 and under the AAT team philosophy AAT has had 18 All-American award winners in track & field, and five individual track & field National Champions, 25 All-American award winners in cross-country, 13 Top Ten National Cross Country Teams, one National Runner-Up and one National Championship Cross Country Team. A family environment is maintained and parents are encouraged to work out while their athlete's train.

Participating in track & field and cross-country is a lot of fun and an activity for the whole family. One of our goals is to make running a life style for your athlete and the whole family. When your athlete grows up to be your age we hope they will look back on their experiences with fond memories and will want their children to enjoy and have the same experiences and life style.
